Peer review procedure
A manuscript that qualifies for publication by AUP, is forwarded by the publisher to two members of the appropriate editorial staff council.
These two members are requested to suggest each two names of external peer reviewers. We then approach these external peer reviewers to write a peer review following the ‘AUP Review Form’.
If the first two reviews share the same opinion, this opinion will be presented for agreement to the editorial staff council by email.
If AUP receives only one review, with either a positive of a negative advice, or if the reviewers have different opinions, the manuscript will be scheduled for the next meeting of the editorial staff council where will be decided whether to publish the book.
If the author is asked to revise his/her manuscript, the final manuscript goes back to one of the two ‘first readers’ for approval.

Two members (first readers) are requested to look at the manuscript thoroughly. In the next meeting of this editorial staff council, the manuscript is discussed and the council advises the publisher whether AUP should publish the book. If the author is asked to revise his/her manuscript, the final manuscript goes back to one of the two ‘first readers’ for approval. If the council doesn’t deem itself appropriate to review the manuscript, it is sent out to at least one external peer reviewer, and that (written) peer-review is discussed in the next meeting of the council, after which the council advises the publisher on acceptation of the manuscript.
